Khlong Tour in Bangkok

This half day tour takes you out on the khlongs (canals) of Bangkok; which is known as the “real Bangkok” far away from the glimpsing skyline and the busy roads. In a long tail boat you’ll experience the canals and see how the locals live their peaceful life on the river. On this trip, you come face to face with the Thai people and experience first hand how they use the river for everyday things like washing clothes and bathing. You will also visit a snake farm, an orchid farm and a fruit plantation.

Day 1: Bangkok
The tour starts at NRGH at 9.00 a.m., where your guide Jimmy takes you to the pier to board the long tail boat. From here you’ll sail down the main river, Chao Phraya, which runs through Bangkok. You will pass some of the big hotels and freeway bridges before making a turn to enter the small klongs (canals).

When entering the khlongs, you will see how the local Thais live in small tree houses by the river. You will meet small longtail boat selling all kinds of food. The first stop is the snake farm, where you can see a variety of exotic animals and a snake show for an additional 150 THB. You can also just use the short break to use the toilet and get some water. At the orchid farm Jimmy will share his big knowledge about the flowers and how to make a lunch pack with the leaves from palm trees. You will also stop at a temple at the river side, where the holy Cat Fish will be fed. It’s an amazing sight when thousands of fish come to the surface out of nowhere.

At the end of the tour it is possible to get off close to the impressive Grand Palace or Wat Pho and continue on your own to see the rest of Bangkok. Or you can choose to return with the long tail boat wit Jimmy back to the starting point close to New Road Guest House.

If you choose to visit the temples remember to dress properly and wear shoes with closed heels. Flip flops, tank tops and short skirts are not accepted at the entrance.
