Lake House Adventure

Embark on a journey that no other travel company can rival. Visit Beyond’s new Lake House will be your home and playground on a five-day tour of Keun Khao Laem, or Pointed Mountain Lake. H.M. King Bumiphol commissioned this lake only decades ago, which now lies at the center of a 1,497 square kilometer national park. We tug the house boat to a new part of the lake every day so that the scenery always changes.

Season:
Year-round. The best period is from November to February, when the weather is dry and the temperature at its lowest. From March to May it can get quite hot. Between May and November, Thailand enters its rainy season, in which heavy and brief showers are a daily occurence.

Day 1: Bangkok to Khao Laem Lake:
It is a half day’s ride from Bangkok to the lake, which lies near the border with Burma (Myanmar), an area of diverse ethnic groups such as the Mon and Keren. Hope on board the lake house and get to know your fellow travelers over a home-cooked dinner. Enjoy a drink (or two) at the bar and kick back for the first of many sunsets. (D).

Day 2: Water Fall and Coconut Island:
Wake up to a healthy breakfast and help yourself to the 24-hour tea and coffee bar. Opt for any one of our brief daily excursions or stroke around the lake in one of the kayaks we provide for you. Or take laziness to the extreme by lounging all day on the second-floor sun deck with book and cocktail in hand.
Who says good things only come from hard work? Our Dai Chong Thong waterfall trek is more like a stroll. The reward for your labors is a cascade of water where you will be the only tourist, foreign or otherwise, in sight. (B, L, D)

Day 3: Elephant riding, lunch at the Karen village:
Coconuts around the world are thoroughly cross-pollinated. As a result, most people have only tried the garden-variety coconut. You know the one: green or brown husk, opaque milk and tough flesh. Well, here’s your chance to try something new and better. On the isolated coconut island you will find a variety that has not been bastardized by your average coconut. This exclusive growing region yields a coconut with delectable milk and soft flesh that you can eat for days. Visit the homes of the small Burmese ethnic group that populates this small island and grows this unique delicacy. (B, L, D).

Day 4: Enjoy the day swimming, fishing or relax in the sun:If you’re like us, you believe in responsible travel . You know that the ethical thing to do is to keep elephants in their natural habitat. So, you go to the Lake House Adventure with Visit Beyond to ride elephants in the green jungle undergrowth, through rivers and over hills. Then you take an easy ride back to the house boat on a bamboo raft and finish the day knowing you’ve been a responsible traveler. (B, L, D)

Day 5: Sangklaburi-Bangkok:
Enjoy your last sunrise over the lake and take those last pictures, because today we head back to the New Road Guest House in downtown Bangkok. (B)
