Season:
The trip to River Kwai can be completed year round, but in the period from June to October there will likely be regular, heavy downpours. The best period is from November to February, when it's dry, and the temperature is lowest. From March to May the temperature can reach 39 degrees.
Day 1: Bangkok - Kanchanaburi
We collect you at New Road Guest House around 8.45 in the morning for Kanchanaburi (a two-hour drive). Upon arrival we check into a local guest house. In the afternoon we bicycle around the beautiful town of Kanchanaburi, visiting the Kao Poon Cave and Chung Kai War Cemetery. We then return to Kanchanaburi for the main attraction in the town: the Bridge over the River Kwai. We return to the resort for dinner. The remainder of the evening is at your leisure. (L, D).
Day 2: Nong Bang
After breakfast we continue to Sai Yok National Park. We will visit a waterfall and Hellfire Pass on the WWII-era railroad. After a local lunch the trip continues to Hin Dad Hot Springs, where you can enjoy waters that can reach 40 degrees. Don't forget your swimsuit! We then visit a local Karen village called Nong Bang, followed by a 4WD-car ride deep into the jungle. Here begins a 4-5 hour trek through bamboo forests. The trekking ends at a bamboo hut in the middle of the jungle where you will stay overnight. Be aware that staying in the jungle means basic conditions (e.g., no electricity). (B, L, D).
Day 3: Nong Bang - Bangkok
After breakfast you begin the trek back to the Nong Bang. This time, you will trek, ride elephants and bamboo rafts. Back in the village you will dine with the locals. When you return to Kanchanaburi late in the afternoon, a train will take you over the tree-covered viaduct on the historical route known as "The death rail way". (About 30 min.) Your transport awaits you for the return to Bangkok. Expect to be back at the hotel in Bangkok around 8:30 pm (20.30). (B, L).
