Day 1: Thonburi Railway trip & Amphawa floating market:
We go to Wong Wian Yai on the Thonburi side of Chao Phraya River. Here we catch the south bound train leaving at 10.00 to Samut Sakhon. From the train you will be able to see Bangkok’s amazing skyline turn into squatty villages where you can peak into homes and shops. Further on palm trees, small rice fields and marshes filled with giant elephant ears and canna lilies crowd the tracks. We stop and eat lunch in Samut Sakhon and explore the sights in this little suburb to Bangkok. We continue our train journey towards Samut Songkhram. In fact the most interesting segment is during this stretch. As the sunset is approaching we will get ready for a boat trip. This is the Amphawa floating market, which has a really traditional buzz surrounding it. You will feel that you are well away from the tourist crowds when gently floating down the river. (L, D)
Day 2: Touring Samut Songkhram:
Early morning we head out for breakfast in the charming surroundings of Samut Songkhram, It’s a city that many thai tourists go to but still few western tourist. You will see many fine and interesting Thai specialties and you should of course try some of them. By boat we head to the truly amazing “Wat Bang Kae Noi” temple – with exquisite carved wooden ceilings and walls, we have been told that it took gifted craft men 7 years to do the carvings. We will also pass “Wat Bang Kung” which is a old temple that is completely covered by roots from a tree. Outside the temple you will see the many sculptures of the great King Taksins fighters and warriors, they are all real size and you can get some good pictures with them. In the afternoon you will have time to explore the floating marked on your own and maybe have a foot massage before we meet after sunset for another boat ride around town to look for the famous fireflies. Dinner will be enjoyed at one of the many local restaurants that serve delicious Thai food. (B, L, D)
Day 3: Beach time in Cha Am:
Early morning we drive to Cha Am, where we will stay overnight. Cha Am is known for its quiet and laidback atmosphere and its 5 km long
beach
. Situated 25 kms north of the more crowded charter destination of Hua Hin, Cha Am remains a Thai favorite with a large majority of Thai tourists and hardly any westerners. We spend the day at the beach and at night we will explore the local night markets. (B, L, D)
Day 4: Khao Sam Roi Yot national park:
8.00 we will drive south to visit this highly underrated national park. It is best described as “little Krabi” with lime stones coming out from the jungle. Khao Sam Roi Yot is known as the “land of the 300 peaks” for its stunning, seemingly endless expanse of chunky limestone crags. Walk quietly as you trudge between the hidden temples deep within – you may hear the distant rustle of dusky languor monkeys dangling in the trees above. If we have time we will relax at the beach. Expected departure back to Bangkok will be at 18.00. (B, L)
